Most mornings start the same way: you pull up to a house, knock on the door, and someone who probably hasn’t thought much about their chimney in years lets you in. By the time you leave, you’ve run a camera up a flue, explained what you found in plain English, swept out a season’s worth of creosote, and left a fireplace that’s actually safe to use. That’s the job. It’s physical, it’s detail work, and it requires the kind of person who doesn’t cut corners when no one’s watching – because we always find out, and more importantly, so does the homeowner. We’ve been doing this since 2002, and the thing that makes a good day at Alcott isn’t the paperwork or the uniform. It’s handing someone real information and knowing the work behind it holds up.
Who We’re Looking For
- Chimney Sweep Technician: Comfortable on a roof, methodical on the job, and the kind of person who reads the flue before they touch a brush.
- Chimney Inspector: Detail-oriented, camera-comfortable, and able to write a condition report a homeowner can actually understand.
- Gas Fireplace Repair Technician: Experienced with gas appliances, steady under pressure, and precise about safety – because gas doesn’t forgive shortcuts.
- Liner Installer / Restoration Technician: Hands-on experience with DuraFlex, HeatShield, or comparable liner systems is a plus; willingness to learn the right way is the requirement.
- Field Apprentice: Green to the trade but not to physical work – you show up on time, you pay attention, and you’re not too proud to ask questions.
- Customer Service / Dispatcher: Clear on the phone, organized under volume, and calm when someone calls at 11 p.m. because something smells like smoke – because that call gets a live person every time.
What We Offer
Real Training and a Path Forward
We don’t hand you a brush and wish you luck. Apprentices work alongside lead technicians until they know why each step matters, not just how to do it. The path from apprentice to lead tech is real, it’s traceable, and it happens when you’ve earned it – not on a fixed schedule.
Work You Can Be Proud Of
Every job at Alcott runs the same way: written price before work starts, a written guarantee on every repair, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise that puts the company on the hook for a full year after any completed job. When you work here, you’re not patching things together and hoping. You’re installing DuraFlex liner systems, HeatShield resurfacing, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield materials – the same brands the best chimney professionals in the country specify. That matters when your name is on the job.
Local Crew, National Backing
Each Alcott location operates independently, which means you’re part of a real local crew – not a number shuffled around a call center. At the same time, you’re backed by the Threshold Group family and the Threshold Standard: background checks, identity verification, upfront pricing, and the kind of accountability that makes customers willing to open the door. That reputation makes your job easier and your referrals stronger.
Steady, Year-Round Demand
Chimneys don’t take summers off, and neither does the work. Inspections, gas fireplace service, liner installs, and annual sweeps keep the schedule full across seasons. The homeowners who find us tend to come back, and they send their neighbors. Consistent demand means consistent work – and that’s a foundation worth building on.
No Experience? Read This.
If you’ve spent time in HVAC, plumbing, roofing, general contracting, or any trade that put you in tight spaces and asked you to solve problems with your hands, more transfers than you think. Reading a flue, pulling a damper, running a camera – these are learnable skills. What we can’t teach is showing up reliably, working carefully, and caring whether the job is actually right.
The first months as an apprentice are straightforward: you ride along, you watch, you ask questions, and you start doing supervised work until it becomes second nature. We cover the chimney-specific knowledge. You bring the work ethic. Most people who take that deal seriously are running their own jobs within a year. If that sounds like a trade you want to be in, we want to hear from you.
How to Apply
Call us at (336) 863-3889 – a live person picks up – or use the application form below. Tell us where you’re based, what kind of work you’ve done (trade background, field work, customer-facing roles – all of it counts), and when you’d be available to start. Hiring is handled locally through the Alcott location nearest you, so the more specific you are about your area, the faster we can connect you with the right crew.
