Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Franchisee Success Stories
The owners who do well with Alcott Chimney Sweep tend to share a few traits. They’re methodical. They like knowing exactly what they’re walking into. They’d rather explain something three times than have a customer nod politely and sign off half-confused. Most came from either the trades or some kind of service work, and most were tired of chasing leads, defending price increases, and apologizing for crews they’d never met. They wanted a system that already had answers.
Meet Our Owners
Sanjay R. – Greensboro, NC
Sanjay spent eleven years managing a regional HVAC supply counter before he bought his Alcott Chimney Sweep location. He knew the parts catalog cold, but he’d never been the one standing in someone’s living room explaining why a flue liner matters. What pulled him in was the Threshold Standard. “I’d watched too many companies cycle through warm bodies,” he says. “The idea that every tech is background-checked, identity-verified, and sent by name and photo before the visit – that wasn’t a marketing line. That was how I wanted to run a business.” He opened his location in Greensboro in 2021. Today he runs three crews and still personally handles the calls where a customer wants to understand a camera inspection before committing to a liner. He says ownership gave him something the supply counter never could: the ability to set his own standard and actually enforce it. His favorite part of the job is handing a written price to a nervous first-time homeowner and watching them exhale.
Cole H. – Boise, ID
Cole came up through wildfire mitigation crews in Idaho, spending summers clearing defensible space and winters working seasonal retail. He was good with heights and better with homeowners, but the seasonal whiplash wore him down. He wanted year-round work that kept him in front of people who actually needed what he knew. Alcott’s focus on gas fireplace repair is what sealed it for him. “Half my neighborhood has gas inserts, and almost nobody knows when they last had one serviced,” he says. “That’s a real need.” Cole bought his location in 2022 and immediately appreciated the trade brands Alcott carries – DuraFlex, HeatShield, Copperfield, Gelco. “I don’t have to defend the materials because they’re the ones chimney professionals spec.” He says the honest surprise was how much of the job is education. People want to see the camera footage. They want the plain-language explanation. Cole’s satisfied with that. “The work speaks for itself when you show it to them.”
Alejandro M. – San Antonio, TX
Alejandro spent a decade in residential restoration, which meant he walked into homes on people’s worst days. He was good at it, but he wanted a trade where the visit was usually preventive, not reactive. A friend who ran a plumbing franchise told him about the Threshold Group portfolio, and Alejandro started digging. What he found was a chimney company with a genuinely different promise: every tech announced by name and photo, photo badge shown at the door, written price before any work. “In restoration, you earn trust after the fact,” he says. “Here, the trust is built before the tech even arrives.” He launched his San Antonio location in 2020 and runs it with his wife managing the phones. The 365-Day Done Right Promise is the part he talks about most with customers. “I don’t need a hard sales pitch. I just tell them: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s the whole sentence.” Alejandro’s crews handle everything from standard sweeps to HeatShield resurfacing jobs, and he says the written repair guarantee has ended more price objections than any discount ever could.
Vikram G. – Columbus, OH
Vikram spent years as a facilities manager for a regional bank, overseeing contractors across a dozen properties. That role taught him exactly how rare it is to find a vendor who shows up on time with a clean uniform and a written scope of work. When he looked at Alcott Chimney Sweep, he saw the same values codified into a franchise system. “The Threshold Standard reads like the contractor policy I always wished I could write,” he says. He opened his Columbus location in 2023, drawn by the predictable demand in a city with thousands of older homes and real winters. What surprised him most was the call volume at odd hours. “We get calls at 11 p.m. because someone smells something strange near the fireplace. A live person answers. That matters more than any ad.” Vikram credits the brand’s plain-spoken reputation for the steady pipeline of referrals. “People don’t refer a chimney company because they’re cheap. They refer because they know exactly who’s coming to the door.”
